Documentaries

I find that there are three reasons people go vegan. 1) Animal Cruelty, 2) Health, and 3) The Environment. For me it’s in that exact order of importance but I like to educate myself on all aspects. Here are some of the best documentaries I’ve seen and their focus.

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret– This is one of my favorites by far! The focus is on the environment and you follow the filmaker as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it.

Food, Inc– This one focuses on the health aspect and what is really in our foods. The filmmaker examines how mammoth corporations have taken over all aspects of food in the United States, from the farms where our food is grown to the chain restaurants and supermarkets where it’s sold.

What the Health– This is a follow up documentary from the makers of Cowspiracy. It uncovers the corruption in the food industry and links it to associations that are supposed to have our health as priority. This is a very eye opening documentary.

Vegucated-I enjoyed this one a lot. It follows 3 New Yorkers who say they would NEVER go vegan. They agree to try veganism for six weeks while being fully educated on the three areas. Watching the transformation is very interesting and real.

Forks Over Knives– This one is completely focused on health. You follow a few people with different health issues and their changes after following a plant based diet. It examines the claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods.

Meet Your Meat- I actually don’t recommend this at all as it is horrible. THIS is what made me go vegan. 100% focus on factory farming and the horrific things we do to these innocent animals so we can have a steak. This is a collection of PETA investigation videos. If you feel you need the push, this is it.

Earthlings- This is another one that I couldn’t stand to watch all the way through. After a few minutes I had what felt like a panic attack and had to call a friend to calm me down. Again, if you need to have a full understanding then this movie will help you with that. It explores the dog meat industry and many other animal cruelty practices that we have.
